Art for Children Uganda (ACU) is a community based organisation that started in 2006. ACU uses creative means of working with children through art based education, life skill training, psychosocial support programs and art workshops for children and youth in prison. Global Giving Open Challenge 1st to 30th September 2012

Art for Children Uganda is participating in the Global Giving Challenge to raise $35,250 to help 300 disabled children participate in the Northern Uganda Children’s Marathon.

The money will be used to pay for transport, feeding, sport outfit. In addition, we shall provide scholastic materials, play materials and equipments.

This campaign will help Children and young people with disabilities in Northern Uganda realize their rights to play and engage in recreational activities. Community understands the importance of play in child growth and development. Promotes equal opportunity and non discrimination for boys, girls and disable children in sporting activities. Active children shall enjoy additional health benefits.

In order to succeed in Global Giving’s Open Challenge, Art for Children Uganda must raise $4,000 from 50 donors by 30th September 2012. If we meet this threshold, we will be permanently featured on GlobalGiving’s website, where we have the potential to benefit from corporate relationships, exposure to a new donor network, and access to dozens of online fundraising tools. Additionally, we could earn as much as $3,000 in financial prizes for raising the most money.

Global Giving is an online fundraising platform for organizations all over the world to raise funds to support their projects.  Projects on globalgiving.org undergo compliance checks to ensure they have a bona fide charitable purpose and meet applicable laws relating to international philanthropy. Global Giving makes it easy for donors to make tax deductible donations (in the US) to Art for Children Uganda online using credit cards and PayPal.

ACU IS ORGANIZING THE FIRST NORTHERN UGANDA CHILDREN’S MARATHON IN LIRA

Art for Children Uganda is organizing Northern Uganda Children’s Marathon 2012 in partnership with community child focus grassroots organisation working in the region which includes; Atonga Foundation, Youth Strengthening Strategy-Gulu, Can Apoto Atura United, Rao Community Development Initiative, Concerned Children and Youth Association, Children Chance International, Transparency International Uganda, Adina Foundation Uganda Community Alternative, Shine Cares, Human Rights Care and Development Agency for Northern Uganda.

The theme “Creating a Peaceful Environment for Children through Sports” The event aims at promoting talents among children, creating harmony and socialization, unity, peace and reconciliation, psychosocial support, promoting and upholding children’s rights. The event will also celebrate and recognize the contribution of children, individual and organisations in the development process of post conflict region of Northern Uganda.

The objective of the event is to make children run/walk 1.5km and 3km for children below 12 and below 18 respectively in a fun way. Every child who finishes the race shall get a medal of participation while the 3 winners in each category will get cash prize worth $200 for school fees and the event proceeds will directly go to support exceptional talented 100 vulnerable children to assist them access basic education through schools fee, scholastic materials, medical care, wheelchair, basic needs and play materials.
